Leadership Course

Higher Education Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Jayaratne says the proposed leadership training programme, to be conducted by the military, will help those entering universities this year to counter unruly elements responsible for ragging. He said that those following the programme will have the strength to meet the challenge. 

The programme will get underway on May 23. 

Addressing the media on Thursday (19), at the University Grants Commission Auditorium, Dr. Jayaratne said that Higher Education Minister S. B. Dissanayake was carrying out a separate programme to curb ragging. 

In spite of Sri Lankan undergraduates having adequate knowledge of various subjects they learnt at universities, they lacked management skills, supervising capabilities et al, Dr. Jayaratne said. The military training would give the new entrants a great opportunity, he said.

Ragging Banned - ITN News

Minister S.B.Dissanayake has emphatically stated that ragging is totally banned in Universities. He was participating in the “Thulawa” Programme telecast over ITN last night.

The Minister requested students to lodge complaints with the lecturers, Deans and the Vice Chancellor any incident on ragging sans any fear. He emphasized that the students will not undergo any hindrance. The Minister pointed out that the Vice Chancellor, the Deans and the lecturers are totally against ragging. In the meantime the Higher Education Minister revealed of the Government’s readiness to have a broad discussion for the resolution of the disputes in the University network
