Higher Education Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Jayaratne says the proposed leadership training programme, to be conducted by the military, will help those entering universities this year to counter unruly elements responsible for ragging. He said that those following the programme will have the strength to meet the challenge.
The programme will get underway on May 23.
Addressing the media on Thursday (19), at the University Grants Commission Auditorium, Dr. Jayaratne said that Higher Education Minister S. B. Dissanayake was carrying out a separate programme to curb ragging.
In spite of Sri Lankan undergraduates having adequate knowledge of various subjects they learnt at universities, they lacked management skills, supervising capabilities et al, Dr. Jayaratne said. The military training would give the new entrants a great opportunity, he said.

Minister S.B.Dissanayake has emphatically stated that ragging is totally banned in Universities. He was participating in the “Thulawa” Programme telecast over ITN last night.
